Can you smell tangerines? So soon the new year! In childhood, for many of us, this smell meant the beginning of winter and the approach of a beloved holiday. For many Russian families, it has become a good tradition to spread tangerine tangerines around the house - they have become a peculiar sign-symbol of the New Year.

Do you believe in Santa Claus? Or that wishes made to the chiming clock come true?

Let's try to remember what traditions of the New meet in our country. It is possible that someone exactly this year will initiate some of them.

  1. Decorate the Christmas tree with cookies (or homemade gingerbread). Who does not like Christmas tree, decorated with edible toys? Imagine how fun it is to dance around such a tree. At any time, you can stop and enjoy the sweet cookies. Cookies can be made in advance by the whole family. Mom will prepare the dough (the best is shortbread), the children will help with the molding of cookies (you can fashion a variety of figures: snowmen, animals, Christmas trees) and decorating the finished baking. Then, when the biscuit is cooled, satin ribbons are passed through the holes made in the dough before being sent to the oven. And all together we hang decorations on Christmas tree branches.
  2. Have a family dinner. The New Year is the only holiday that is considered exclusively a family celebration. All relatives and friends gather on this day at the festive table for a joint meal, seeing off and celebrating the New Year.
  3. To dress up the Christmas tree with the whole family. A Christmas tree in the house creates a special festive mood, especially if it is a living fir tree. Pleasant pine scent instantly creates a New Year's atmosphere. If every year you buy a new Christmas-tree decoration (or bring toys from trips), then many years later, looking at them, you will be happy to dive into the memories of the time when and where these toys were purchased.
  4. Relax in the fresh air. Winter gives us a unique opportunity to spend the holidays on the street, playing snowballs, fashioning a snowman, skiing and skating, going down a hill on ice floes. Red cheeks and nose, wet mittens, cheerful laughter are excellent associations for the New Year. Outdoor activities will bring the family closer, strengthen relationships between households.
  5. Write New Year wishes. This is one of the most popular traditions. On a piece of paper, each family member writes down his wishes for the next year: go to sea, learn to swim, learn English. They say that if the desire to write on paper, it will come true. The main thing is to believe in a miracle.
  6. To tell fortunes for the New Year. You can arrange a traditional magical divination (on the cards, on the water, on coins, on the coffee grounds), and you can come up with comic predictions for guests. This is done this way: on sheets of paper, the presenter writes down the predictions (of course, only good ones), and then invites each of those present to draw out a piece of paper on which will be written - what will happen to them next year.
  7. Decorate the Christmas tree with childish fakes. For the year in the house where there are small children, a huge amount of creative fakes accumulate: drawings, applications, paper flowers, snowflakes, lanterns, etc. You can hang them on the Christmas tree, thus encouraging the creative impulses of children.
  8. Play games. The time spent in joint games, unusually brings together family members. Children, when they grow up, will be happy to remember the minutes spent for the whole family in exciting games and competitions. It can be board games, dance competitions, karaoke. By the way, do not forget to buy karaoke discs with popular new songs of the year.
  9. To launch salutes and fireworks, to light sparklers. Exploding lights, of course, cause bright associations with the New Year. Fireworks love both adults and children. At the same time it is necessary to adhere to strict security measures, to carry out all manipulations strictly under the supervision of adults.
  10. Make a family portrait. If you take a group picture of the whole family every year and put the photos into a separate New Year album, in the future you will have a wonderful family heirloom that can be passed down from generation to generation by inheritance.
  11. Arrange a New Year's interview. When in a few years the household will read notebooks with their New Year's interviews, especially children’s, they will be surprised to discover how much has changed. To save the seminal memories, make a questionnaire with questions about the events of the past year: “What is the most memorable this year?”, “What film did you like?”, “Who is your best friend?”, “What are you dreaming about?” etc.
  12. Hang on the wall a new calendar. It should be not just a beautiful calendar, you will need to put down with your own hands all the significant events in the coming year: birthdays, meetings, holidays, holidays. Looking through such a calendar, it will be nice to remember the events of the past years.
  13. Search for gifts on the map, completing tasks. Why do kids love kinder surprise so much? Because they know that they will receive a toy, but which one, it remains a secret for them. So on New Year's Day, if the gift is not just lying under the Christmas tree, but “hiding” somewhere in the recesses of the house, it will be especially nice to get it. You can prepare a special map with images of the places where the notes with the tasks are hidden. After completing all the tasks, the child with delight will find in the last cache a long-awaited gift.
  14. Wrap gifts for guests with children. The more interesting, colorful packaging, the more interesting to see what is hidden in it? The child will be happy to participate in the packaging of gifts: glue beads, beads, buttons, bows, sign boxes.
  15. Get rid of old stuff. Try to part with the New Year with unnecessary things, freeing up space in the house.
